13/11/2024SonarMix 053: NOIA - Relentless jungle, footwork and UK hardcore from Porto’s rising ‘160’ champion
SonarMix 053 goes out to the 160bpm crew. Hailing from Porto, NOIA is Portugal’s resident ‘160’ champion, part of a wave of artists who are bringing uptempo, bass-heavy music back to dancefloors across Europe and beyond.
Opening with DevNull’s shattered amen breaks and closing with *that* Rashad and Spin remix of Addison Groove’s ‘Footcrab’, the XXIII co-founder has sent us maybe the most relentless SonarMix to date. Serving as an introduction to the geographically and stylistically diverse universe of 160, it’s proof that there’s more than one way to play fast as we career towards 2025. Of course, there’s plenty of jungle and footwork, but she also veers into ravey UK hardcore and breakbeat (Sweatpea, ODF), hyperspeed bass hybrids (JurangoJensen Interceptor), and even takes a detour into mutant ghetto house (Big Dope P, Feadz & TT The Artist). Even through your headphones, you can feel the infectious energy that’s NOIA’s calling card: it’s a challenge staying seated for the duration. She’ll bring that same intensity when she plays at Sónar Lisboa 2025: we’re expecting her to set the pace on the festival’s final day. We can’t wait.  Tracklist:
